Projects
Project on "Provision of legal Training Components for legal institutions of Iraq-LTI" (2010-2011)

The Arab Center for the Rule of Law and Integrity (ACRLI) implemented a Project entitled "Provision of legal Training Components for legal institutions of Iraq-LTI" funded by UNDP Iraq within the framework of its broader Rule of Law (RoL) programme.

The overall objective of the Project consists in increasing the professionalism and accountability of Government of Iraq justice actors.

More specifically, the Project aims to improve the overall functioning and effectiveness of the Higher Judicial Council (HJC), Ministry of Justice (MOJ), Judicial Training Institute (JTI), and the pilot courts in Baghdad, Erbil and Basra through a diverse set of legal training activities tailored for each institution, on the topics below:

  • Methodology of the Continuous Training and the New  Training Tool

  • Arbitration

  • Strategic Planning

  • Juvenile Justice

  • International Laws and Standards and the Procedural Law

  • Performance of Fair and Just Investigation, Criminal Law, Terrorism, and Humanitarian Law

  • Judicial Independence and Integrity and the Judicial Ethics

  • Human Rights

  • Gender Based Violence

  • Anti-Corruption

  • Gender Equity

  • Family Code

The Project, implemented over a duration of fourteen months, was managed by the Project Management Team (PMT), supervised by the Chief Technical Advisor (CTA), and supported by a number of (1) experts/trainers who were responsible for the elaboration of the training materials/handbooks and execution of the training sessions related to their respective field of experience, and (2) a number of international and regional institutions who ensured the successful implementation of the Project.  These include: (i) UN agencies, including :UNFPA, UNIFEM, UNAMI-HRO, UNICEF and others (ii) individual UN and international experts; (iii) the EcoleNationale de la Magistrature (ENM), and the (iv) Iraqi counterparts including the Higher Judicial Council (HJC), the Ministry of Justice (MoJ), and the Judicial Training Institute (JTI).
